Rabbi Zelig Silber Distinguished Alumnus Award
A native of Toronto, Canada, Rabbi Zelig Silber was raised in Chicago, where he received his formative education in Cheder Lubavitch Boys Hebrew Day School and Lubavitch Mesivta High School. After studying in other Lubavitch institutions of higher Jewish learning, he received his rabbinical ordination in 2007.
Rabbi Silber, the son of distinguished educators, is himself also a highly skilled educator, with a passion for progressive teaching. He currently holds a Master’s Degree in Education, with a specialty in Special Education, from Nova Southeastern University. Presently teaching the fifth grade at Cheder Chabad, in Monsey, New York, Rabbi Silber was a member of the original group to graduate the MEF’s Teacher Training Program, when it piloted in 2008. After years of active involvement at the Menachem Education Foundation, first as trainee and then as presenter and consultant, Rabbi Silber was hired in 2012 to direct the Teacher Induction Program.
Rabbi Silber currently resides in Spring Valley, NY, with his wife, Shaina and their three lovely children.

Al and Lana, both of whom emigrated from Russia at an early age, each shined in their youth in ways that foretold of their future successes and achievements. Lana, who already showed a taste for music at a very tender age, attended De Paul University on a piano scholarship and then went on to become a concert pianist.
Al’s early love of cars – painting and repairing them in his dad’s garage – eventually translated into his founding, in 1984, Wheels of Chicago, Inc., investing his total life-savings at that time of 10,000 into the business.
Al and Lana are strong believers in the importance of philanthropy, and have been generous and heartfelt supporters of the Mesivta for many years.
Al and Lana are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Maura, Allen and their youngest, Sophie.
